28 WING SPAN AUGUST FAI WORLD DRONE RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS The dream to win the prestigious title of FAI World Racing Champion will once again be realised when this year’s FAI World Drone Racing Championships takes place in China from 28 November – 1 December 2019. This will be the second FAI World Drone Racing Championship, which is designed to showcase the very best drone racing in the world. In addition, the 2019 event is set to launch a new Masters Series of events that will be run alongside the existing Challenger Series and is equally designed to attract the world’s elite drone racers. It will all culminate in the FAI World Drone Racing Championship Grand Final, where the top three competitors from each Masters Series event will automatically quality for the Grand Final. In addition, the FAI has also added the latest discipline of Drone Soccer to its sporting code as a provisional class, which will take place in Korea later in the year. The Australian FPV Association (AUFPV) hosted the 2019 FAI F9U Team Selection Event on 4 August , where aspiring FPV racers were invited to register their interest to participate in a free qualifying event that was held at Llewellyn Park in Wantirna South, Victoria. The three best open pilots, best junior pilot and best female pilot were selected for the team. These were; Granger Woolley, from VIC (Male, Junior) Thomas Bitmatta, from VIC (Male) Nicole Merrick, from VIC (Female) Sam Heeps, from VIC (Male, Junior) Henry Corbell, from ACT (Male) Currently, Australia is the FAI World Drone Racing Championship reigning nation having dominated last year’s event by taking first in both the individual and team categories. 15-year-old Brisbane pilot, Rudi Browning memorably beat 127 other drone racers to be crowned FAI World Racing Champion at the inaugural FAI World Drone Racing Championships in Shenzhen, China.
