08 WING SPAN AUGUST Design your Perfect Aircraft for the 2022 FAI Young Artist Contest The FAI World Air Sports Federation has announced the theme for the 2022 FAI Young Artist Contest will be Design your Perfect Aircraft, giving aviation enthusiasts, including aeromodellers, the chance to get creative. Contestants are asked to select their favourite pens, paints, or crayons and share their vision of the perfect aircraft in the hopes that their design might become an inspiration for tomorrow’s aviation reality. The Young Artists Contest is open to anyone between the ages of six and 17, with FAI gold, silver and bronze medals and diplomas presented to the top three artists in each of the three categories below: • Group I - Junior Category (Date of birth between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2015). • Group II - Intermediate Category (Date of birth between 1 January 2008 and 31 December 2011). • Group III - Senior Category (Date of birth between 1 January 2004 and 31 December 2007). The contest aims to inspire young people with the behind the scenes work of aviation industry specialists and helps to create interest in a variety of sports aviation disciplines including aeromodelling. Some questions to think about when creating artwork would be… • What is your perfect aircraft? • What would power it through the sky? • Would it be big or small? • What special features would make pilots and passengers excited to be in the air? The annual contest is in its 35th year and is entered by creative aviation enthusiasts who are from FAI member countries all over the world. Last year, 15 countries were represented with gold medal winners from Japan and the USA with artworks celebrating ‘A friendlier world with air sports’. Entries for the FAI Young Artists Contest will close on 1 April 2022. The Young Artists Contest is first run at a national level.
