MAAA Wingspan
30 WING SPAN AUGUST MANAGEMENT MATTERS MAAA clubs are all about allowing aeromodelling enthusiasts to experience the camaraderie that comes from the fun of flying with a unique community. Renewing your membership with the largest, most renowned aeromodelling organisation in Australia means you can take to the skies confident that you are in safe hands. But for some members, they decide not to renew. We conducted a survey to find out why so that we could help clubs discover how to take a proactive approach from a grassroots level, encouraging members to find their wings, enjoy their love of flying with their mates and continue to renew their membership each year. What the survey found The survey found that many members who had decided not to renew their membership did so as a result of lifestyle circumstances or because these members intended on coming back to the sport at a later date. 36% of respondents stated that they intended to renew their membership at a later date. When asked the main reason(s) they are not renewing their membership, respondents indicated: • 27% stated that they don’t have time in their life right now to fly • 21% said that the culture wasn’t enjoyable and that their club needed to be more inclusive • 10% stated they have too many family commitments Other reasons for not renewing membership included not being confident with their flying abilities, being too old and having taken up a different hobby. Collective actions we can take within our clubs There are some great teachings in these survey findings that all clubs can use to encourage members to renew their membership and reinvigorate their passion for flying. It is important to note that just because a member doesn’t renew their membership today, doesn’t mean they don’t love the sport or want to be involved. There can be many outside circumstances that are affecting this decision. VALUABLE INSIGHT INTO WHY MEMBERS MAY NOT BE RENEWING THEIR MEMBERSHIP
