To enable the addressing of important issues such as, the selection and renewal of insurance policies, determination of the budget, setting of fees, club assistance scheme, election of Vice President and awards to name a few, an internet meeting was held by the Executive Council. Other reporting issues, motions etc. will be held over until the full council have an opportunity to meet. It stands to reason the current situation relating to COVID-19 will be a topic of discussion and the circumstances at the time will be taken into consideration when determining monetary issues. Operationally, the Executive have provided advice to Ordinary Members. As you are aware, the MAAA cannot direct Ordinary Members or clubs to take a certain course of action unless provided for in MAAA MOPs. There is no MOP relating to the current health crisis and accordingly the MAAA cannot give directions to clubs. The MAAA will continue to provide recommendations based on the current advice available. Each State or Territory have enacted legislation and Ordinary Members and clubs must take this into account in their decision- making process. For information the current health crisis does not impact on current insurance policies. As with the closure of clubs, the re-opening I believe should be a gradual phased in process; social distancing may be an issue we will have to deal with for many months after we resume our activities. Club officials should at this time be considering how they will manage this in a way that no member is disadvantaged. This may mean gradually increasing the number of members permitted at the field at any one time, maintaining a roster system for attendance, segregating pit areas to provide for social distancing, keeping club rooms and toilets closed, sterilization of common areas and equipment and other restrictions complimentary to relevant state legislation. What lies ahead for us all is an unknown, however please all keep safe, look out for your families, friends and fellow club members and in particular, those who live alone.
