MAAA Wingspan

MAAALogo. 5 0 MAY WING SPAN SAFETY MATTERS With a 75-year legacy as Australia’s largest flying organisation, the MAAA is committed to providing the best and safest flying experience for our members. Across approximately 350 clubs and thousands of flying sites, the MAAA brings together our State Associations’ collective knowledge to prevent and manage accidents and incidents. Keeping the skies safe and our pilots injury free is our top priority. This time of the year sees the MAAA Secretary’s office extremely busy obtaining terms of insurance for all six of the MAAA Policies. MAAA Insurance Policies are put out to tender each year with a 3-month period carefully considered from March to May each year with the anniversary of the MAAA Policies being 31st May. To ensure duty of care for our members and their flying, the MAAA Insurance Premiums are paid in full up front for the following year and Certificate of Currency available to our members and clubs as needed from time to time under our club leases. A common question to the MAAA Council is “When has the MAAA insurance policy been renewed?” Many members are not aware that the MAAA Council has six policies in place to ensure we provide an appropriate level of cover to our members and clubs. These policies include: 1. Public and Products Liability Insurance; 2. Personal Accident Insurance; 3. Association Liability 4. Cyber Liability 5. Travel Insurance; 6. Property insurance (first $10k infrastructure cover for club facilities) Under these policies, the MAAA keeps records on incidents. This allows us to undertake Industry Risk Profiling to adjust our policies and levels of cover where needed. When done correctly, as the MAAA does, appropriate insurance cover isn’t “simple” as it must balance the needs and wants of all our members. When an Accident of incident occurs: When an incident or accident occurs, the MAAA takes those impacted under our wing, ensuring that our members get back to safe, fun flying as soon as possible. The MAAA manages member’s insurance claims on their behalf and provides assistance or corrective action if required. Open communication is always key. If an accident or incident occurs, we speak directly with clubs and members to ensure that they are safe, feel supported and reach a resolution quickly. The MAAA Council has also now established a Safety team that has a person from each state available to assist in investigating any accidents that occur. Unlike other associations, the MAAA conducts thorough investigations to ascertain the accidents or incidents that are trending and put corrective action in place.
