MAAA Wingspan

37 NOVEMBER WING SPAN MAAALogo. For the past six years, aeromodellers from the Tingalpa Model Aero Club Inc. and Norfolk Island Model Aero Club, have hosted a fly-in, in memory of Allen Danvers- fellow club member and friend who was lost to cancer on December 1, 2014. This year was another exceptional year of flying with 33 visiting aeromodellers and friends from TMAC INC., RMAC INC Rockhampton, Hinterland Model Aero Club and Redlands Model Aero Club, as well as members from NSW modelling clubs and a representative from Thailand. The beauty of flying on Norfolk Island is the diversity of the flying sites that can be utilised according to which direction the prevailing wind is coming from. This includes, Kingston, Cemetery Beach, Ball Bay, Anson Bay and Fisherman’s Lane - amongst others. The main strip is adjacent to the airport, which can accommodate large model aircraft. Participating flyers brought over a range of electric models and gliders for flying at this thrilling event. Flying generally starts around 6.30am and continues throughout the day at different locations. There is no actual competition during the fly-in week- the emphasis instead is on the love of flying and the classic aeromodelling camaraderie that comes with it. “This year the flying was extraordinarily good at Cemetery Beach and all aeromodellers had an excellent time,” said Will Sipma. “The social events were also well attended, including the welcome fish fry dinner and the farewell dinner. Our thanks go to Helen from Norfolk Island Travel Centre, Gary Fox and the wonderful friends that have been made on the island.” For further details about the 2019 event check out tmac.asn.au or contact Will Sipma 0409 852 694. 2018 NORFOLK ISLAND FLY-IN “ALLEN DANVERS CHALLENGE”
