16 17 Pilots from across Queensland travelled to Kingaroy for a two-day fun flying event to raise vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. It’s a cause that is very important to the Kingaroy Aero Modeller Society with fellowmember, Dean Eckart recently being diagnosed with Leukaemia and is undergoing treatment in Brisbane. Club President John Box said the event raised a total of $1,500. Since Dean was diagnosed the total raised by the South Burnett Community has been a total of $10,000. “It was a great event and we were thrilled with the support we have been shown by the local community,” said John. “It was a day of fun flying and raising vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. Dean is going as well as expected. “At the time of this interview, he was at day 24 of the 100 days of closemonitoring required after his bonemarrow transplant. “Until his immunity builds up, he cannot be exposed to any possible chance of infection, so he was in hospital in Brisbane.” Dean has been a valuedmember of the club for 15 years. Dean flew IMAC competitions for some years and was a top pilot. Dean was diagnosed with Leukaemia threemonths ago and has been a paraplegic for 13 years now. This brave family man has been in hospital receiving treatment. The Leukaemia Foundation has provided hima unit for his family which is located across the road from the hospital, meaning he can spend time with his wife and daughter while being treated.
