WING SPAN AUGUST 10 The South Hummocks Model Aero Club (SHMAC) in South Australia has hosted a successful Gathering of the Cubs with about 40 people turning out to the event, with a total of 32 Cubs. The Gathering of the Cubs event held on Sunday 16 May was the inaugural event and hopefully will become a yearly tradition. The idea came from former President, Anthony Peters a couple of years ago and he contacted Guinness Book of Records, registered the attempt and supplied the video evidence to Guinness. He created the event in an attempt to set an Australian record for themost number of Cubs in one place at a time and invited the Guinness Book of Records to witness the attempt. This year, at the official videoing of Cubs to be dispatched to the Guinness Book of Records, including a total of 32 Cubs lined up, ranging in size from tiny Free Flight to 1/3 Scale RC. The Cubs event was enjoyed by all who attended, according to Ned Kelly, Secretary and Treasurer of SHMAC. “We ended up with nine caravans and around 40 people, and while there was a fair bit of flying done, the event was mainly about catching up withmembers fromall over South Australia,” Ned said. “The camaraderie of these events is what aeromodelling is all about, and there really should bemore of it,” he added. SHMAC held a raffle and presented a Pilot’s Choice Award to Alexis Scott with his Balsa USA 1/3 Scale Cub powered by an OS FT300 with FEMA on board starter. It was Alexis’s lucky day as he also won a raffle prize along with Club President Rod South. “Both of themhad pretty big smiles on their faces after the win, and everyone I spoke to said they enjoyed themselves and had a good time.” Clubs who took part in the event included: South Hummocks MAC, Noarlunga MAC, Constellation MFC, South Hummocks Model Aero Club hosts “Gathering of the Cubs”
