THE OLD STATION NEAR RAGLAN IN WESTERN QUEENSLAND ONCE AGAIN PLAYED HOST TO
THE OLD STATION FLY-IN AND HERITAGE SHOW FROM 25TH TO 27TH MAY THIS YEAR, RAISING
VITAL FUNDS FOR THE RACQ CAPRICORN HELICOPTER RESCUE SERVICE.
Now in its 25th year, the show is held
on the fourth weekend in May and is
organised by the Old Station Flying
Club. The airstrip is part of a working
Brahman cattle station owned and
operated by the Creed family for
generations.
This aeronautical spectacle is a
chance for enthusiasts to get up
close and personal with a wide
variety of aircraft and heritage
vehicles. Barbeque smells battle it
out with the aroma of aviation fuel,
and the sounds of country music
fight to be heard over the roar of
aircraft engines.
MAAA member and local, Bobby
Haigh, has been to the show for
the last three years and loves the
chance to get a bit more hands-on.
“This is the only event I have been to
where you can walk amongst all the
vehicles and aircraft and everyone
including the pilots is very friendly.”
Enthusiasts are spoiled for choice
and this year was no exception,
showcasing everything from small
gyrocopters, helicopters, crop
dusters, and ultralights up to
warbirds and even a couple of small
jets.
The show also featured spectacular
air displays from the Red Bull Air
Race Team Pilot, Matt Hall in his
two-seater air racer, the Extra 330L,
and aerobatic pilot Paul Bennett in
his TBM Avenger.
A few brave souls, including Bobby,
got even closer by joining Matt in his
aircraft for a ‘joy-flight’.
Back on terra firma there was a
truck show, a vintage tractor pull, a
chainsaw competition, childrens’
entertainment, a fashion parade,
as well as a bonfire and fireworks
display on Saturday night.
