I also took the opportunity to visit the two
aeromodelling clubs in the area and my wife Gail
and I were treated to the hospitality of the local
aeromodellers at a joint club dinner, thank you all
for a wonderful evening.
10,000 visitors pass though the museum every
year and I highly recommend a visit to all
MAAA members. Stay for two or three days and
experience first-hand the thrill of flying in the
centre of Australia, I did and I loved every minute
of it.
FPV Drone National
Championships
The MAAA welcomes the latest National Special
Interest Group, FPV Racing. Over the weekend of
August 19 – 21 the first ever FPV Drone National
Championships were held on the Gold Coast. The
event was a great success and gained Australia
wide media coverage. For more information on
this addition to our sport, contact Tighe Brown;
info@afpvra.org. We look forward to seeing how
the top five winners compete at second World
Championships in Hawaii this October where 30
nations are competing in a six day event, with
$200,000 in prizes as well as the title of World
Champion up for grabs.
Finally, I would like to congratulate the members
who competed in Lugo, Italy, at the F5B & F5D
World Championships. The F5D Electric Pylon
Racing team competed in harsh conditions, with
the temperature reaching 38°C, but they still
did Australia proud and placed second in their
event.
Until next time, have a fun, safe flight.
