MAAA Wingspan - Quarterly Magazine

6 WING SPAN FEBRUARY Fun, friendship and camaraderie, all while keeping our airways safe, is what flying with the MAAA is all about. The organisation understands that to help ensure the future of aeromodelling in our skies, there needs to be continued financial assistance to clubs- with the intention of improving their facilities, as well as the investment in model aircraft flying sites across the country. While many members are indeed aware of such MAAA services as insurance for your protection and peace of mind, there are additional services that aren’t as well recognised. One such amenity is the annual Club Assistance Scheme , which has been designed to give access to financial assistance and support, ensuring members continue enjoying the adrenalin rush of the sport with the best facilities and flying fields. With the 2018 Club Assistance Scheme officially opening in February (applications close on April 1) here are some examples to remind you of the possible projects that your club could benefit from as a result of a successful funding application: Light Construction Club house building extensions, safety and/or security fencing, pilot boxes, set up or maintenance benches. Asset Purchases Storage containers, lawn mowers, water tanks, irrigation systems, solar power, windsocks, first aid kits or trainer aircraft. Earthworks Grading services, purchase of soil and road base, grass seed and fertilisers, plants and trees. Activities Open days, advertisements, trophies and prizes, hire of portable facilities, electricity generators, temporary seating and temporary shade structures. Administration Club establishment costs, council development applications, acoustic engineering reports and environmental impact assessments. Emergency Assistance Expenses faced by clubs which might require assistance as a result of flood, fire, disasters or criminal activities, (which may not be covered under the MAAA Property Insurance). To assist clubs with preparing a submission for the scheme, a ‘how to’ guide has been compiled.
