32 Showcasing skill and precision, the renowned Heli Heatwave whizzed through the skies over Cootamundra NSW, celebrating 20 years of this thrilling aerial event. More than 40 pilots from across Australia descended on the NSW State Flying field, with their model aircraft reaching speeds of up to 200km/hr. The event catered for beginners, immediate and expert level pilots. Event organiser and Australian model helicopter champion, Brendan Tucker said enthusiasts of model helicopters could both celebrate their aircraft and learn and advance their skills at the event. “For the 20th event, we wanted it to be about our Aussie pilots, about them learning new skills, being supported by other pilots and celebrating our helicopter flying community in Australia,” said Brendan. “Previous years we’ve had an international pilot attend to teach their skills and techniques but this year, for our 20th year, we wanted it to be about our flying community, “We had great camaraderie amongst the pilots. They came together and helped each other out, sharing their passion, asking for help or lending a hand to the beginners. We even saw that the advanced pilots learn a thing or two.” The Heli Heatwave has had a long history as an event supporting the sport of model helicopters. Previously held at the Wagga Model Aero Club, the event has always placed an emphasis on fun flying and giving radio-controlled model helicopter pilots a chance to display their aircraft and enjoy the camaraderie of their fellow pilots.
