MAAALogo. AUGUST WING SPAN “For me and my family, it was always a labour of love. Aeromodelling is an amazing hobby. I enjoy all aspects of it, cutting the shapes, sanding the wood, building, and crafting something from your own hands. Hand crafting these model planes is a wonderful skill, which I am happy to pass down the family line,” said Yonatan. “Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s in our small town, model planes were hard to source, and we had to improvise and make our own parts,” Yonatan remembered. “Now, it’s a different problem, the parts are all pre-made and ready to assemble, parts are hard to find!” Alma is looking forward to the perfect flying conditions, of a fine day with little wind so she can go to the park in Ormond and fly model planes with her family. She says this is one of her favourite pastimes now, and next year, she has decided it might be time to get a job to buy more model planes to make for her and her family to enjoy. Alma carries on the family’s careful, dedication and love of the craft following in the footsteps of her grandfather, uncle, and father with the time-honoured traditional methods of aeromodelling. 15 CELEBRATING IDO “I can tell you that Ido is with us every moment of our lives. This kit was given to me by Ido after he came back from demo flights at the Seoul International Aeromodelling Festival . Since 2010 the kit has been waiting to be built. When Alma asked to build an RC plane it was clear to me what kit she should build. This kit is complex and challenging to build, understanding the drawings took Alma sometimes more time than building the parts and sub-assemblies, the love and excitement to dive into each detail and do everything to the best possible outcome is exactly what Ido was about. As our love for Ido is strong, this airplane was built by Alma with much love and the result is beautiful.” YONATAN SEGEV, Alma’s Dad
